Carlo trains astronauts for a living. He is a Ground Segment and Payload instructor at the European Space Agency's European Astronaut Centre — the Columbus module you see in photographs of ISS training is where he works — and he runs Mission Control operations and space experiments. He also leads XR training and innovation at ALTEC, and spends a good part of his time on STEM outreach with students and professionals. At Stardust he is the trainer on the Astronaut Foundations Program: three weeks on the mindset, consistency and judgement that come before the hardware. He reads every trainee's journal himself and runs all three live sessions.
